These propshafts are made to a very high standard, please don’t compare these to cheap import ones.

Do I need a Wide Angle or a Double Cardan Propshaft :-
Wide Angle Propshaft is mainly used on and off road when you have fitted longer travel suspension with more axle drop out and your original propshaft is binding on the joints, they can sometimes help with vibration problems, but if they can’t cure the vibration problems a Double Cardan may have to be used. The wide angle propshafts are easier and cheaper to repair than a Double Cardan.
Double Cardan propshaft is mainly used on road to help prevent vibration problems when driving on road. They are also wide angle to cope with long travel suspension. That is the reason they are the most expensive Propshaft we have available. Propshafts can sometimes fail due to the angle they are running at, if this does happen to a Double Cardan, they are very difficult and expensive to repair.
Wide Angle and Double Cardan Propshafts on Land Rover vehicles will require regular maintenance and repair due to the angles they are used at, especially with a suspension lift. For example, every inch of lift will roughly add 3 degrees on the average front Propshaft angle.
To check your propshaft angles, you can download an angle app to your phone. Zero the device on your handbrake drum, transfer box or drive flange and measure your propshaft angle. Please be aware the steeper the angle the more wear and problems your propshaft will have.

Fitting advice:-
Please note these propshafts have heavy-duty round flanges, when fitting make sure you clean up all flange faces as they should not sit on top of dirt or rust.
Brush grease onto flange faces this will help prevent rust.
The Double Cardan end bolts onto the transfer box flange.
You must ensure all UJs and the slider are fully greased on fitment and are regularly greased during use.
After greasing cap greased joints, you must make sure the grease nipple does not allow grease to leak back, they must seal after greasing. If you have dirt in there, they will not seal. If this is the case the grease nipple must be replaced or capped with our plug.
Always make sure your propshaft can still turn with your axle at full suspension drop out, long-travel suspension can allow the axle to drop down too far causing the joints to bind and break.

This propshaft has 3 fully greaseable UJs, and the slider is also greaseable.

Why Fit a Double Cardan propshaft:-
A Double Cardan propshaft is used mainly to help reduce propshaft vibrations on lifted vehicles where running angles have become steeper.
The Double Cardan end is fitted to the gearbox as this is normally the steepest angle.
Although these propshafts are 30/40 degree wide angle, no propshaft should be run with a steeper angle of 5 degrees as this causes premature universal joint wear, especially when used on road as they overheat.
By fitting a Double Cardan propshaft you have 2 universal joints at the Double Cardan end which reduces the joint angle by 1/2 making them last longer compared to a single joint on a normal propshaft.
Between the 2 joints, there is a ball and cup that holds the 2 joints together, again with suspension lifts these can overheat and wear out quicker.

They feature:-

  • Double Cardon propshafts are used to help reduce propshaft vibrations on lifted vehicles, especially after caster correction.
  • Slip joint is at the Double Cardan end out of the mud and water.
  • 30 degree wide angle to prevent the propshaft binding up on long-travel suspension.
  • 40 degree wide angle on the Double Cardan end.
  • Heavy Duty Round Flange Face (not the old square type), that bolts to the gearbox and diff 79.4mm PCD.
  • This version has the superior Italian Double Cardon end with slip joint built into the D/C end (both these joints are Cap Greased)
  • Higher torque capacity than a standard Land Rover propshaft, using 60mm heavy duty high torque tube.
  • Td5 Discovery 2 transfer box flange is not required to fit this one.
  • Heavy duty 1310 series Universal Joints (27mm x 81.8mm) with nylon thrust washers and metal/rubber seals, the nylon thrust washers also have a cross in them to allow grease to get to each cup when greasing them.
  • Rilsan coated spline for smoother operation and helps eliminate vibrations.
  • Upgraded involute spline configuration with 18 splines that is also GREASEABLE which is a feature only found on our propshafts.
  • Internally plug welded to hold the grease in the slider.
  • Double seal arrangement on the slip assembly, with 110mm of movement and full spline contact on the male and female slider to help with long-travel suspension.
  • Phased when required to help reduce vibrations.
  • All prop shafts come with a tube of k48 grease.

A NOTE FOR SWAYBAR/FRONT SHAFT RELATIONSHIPS:

When fitting a Ultra HD front propshaft to any Defender/Disco1 you will find that you will have the shaft rub on the swaybar on droop within normal driving conditions.

Also when fitting any shock beyond factory length you will also find on axle droop, your front drive shaft will come in contact with the swaybar.

Made from Aluminium - 25mm thick - our swaybar spacers are the solution!
