Custom-tuned remote reservoir shocks for your Land Rover
The KINGPIN Basic Remote Resi Shock Kit brings together four Superior Engineering remote reservoir shocks and our KINGPIN mounting components for Land Rovers running standard height through to 2-inch lift. We custom tune the shocks to suit your vehicle, its load and how you use it.
This is a shock and mounting kit. Coils and a front driveshaft are optional additions, not part of the base kit.

Tell us your model, year, engine, current ride height, front accessories and usual rear load so we can confirm the correct setup. Vehicle-specific mounting requirements apply; the Defender/Perentie rear reservoir plates are not a direct-fit solution for D1/RRC.
What is included?
- 4 × Superior Engineering custom-valved remote reservoir shocks — two front and two rear, with 8-stage external compression adjustment. Fully rebuildable, serviceable and tunable. KINGPIN tuning includes the shim stacks and shock piston modifications to suit the application.
- 1 pair of KINGPIN front shock turrets, without dislocation cones — height matched to the shocks supplied.
- 1 pair of KINGPIN front shock reservoir mounting brackets — designed to mount the reservoirs to the front face of our turrets. Two small mounting holes require drilling.
- 1 pair of KINGPIN rear pin-conversion shock mounts — converts the rear upper mounting to accept the pin-to-pin shocks.
- KINGPIN rear shock reservoir mounting plates for Defender/Perentie applications. Puma fitment uses the existing threaded bosses; pre-Puma/Perentie installations require M10 rivnuts/nutserts. These plates do not fit Discovery 1 and are excluded from the D1 kit. Confirm the rear reservoir mounting arrangement with KINGPIN before installation. RRC fitment must be confirmed separately.
- KINGPIN fuel filter relocation bracket and fitting kit included only with Td5 and Puma/TDCi Defender kits to clear the rear pin-conversion mounts. Not required or included for Discovery 1, RRC, Perentie or pre-Td5 Defenders, including 300Tdi.
No extended brake lines or spring retainers required
The shock lengths used in this kit do not require extended brake lines, spring retainers or dislocation cones. This is a deliberately matched shock-and-mount setup for 0–2-inch lift, rather than a long-travel conversion requiring those extra components.
Optional coils — match the vehicle's load
Using the coil selector: choose “No coils” to retain your existing springs, or select a package combining your front accessories and rear load. Coil packages add a front pair and a rear pair to the kit. Final spring specification is matched to your vehicle and load before supply. The listed packages use standard front coils; custom 165lb front coils can be arranged separately.
Puma owners: selecting coils does not automatically add the required front multi-position bumpstop spacers. Please contact KINGPIN to arrange these before fitting 2-inch coils. A front MEGA shaft is selected separately, unless already fitted.
Keep your existing suitable coils, or add front and rear coils matched to your setup. Front load choices are no bar or winch; bull bar only; or bull bar and winch.
Rear load choices depend on the vehicle. Choose for the weight normally carried, including permanent accessories.
For D110/D130 and suitable Perentie applications, our rear choices include the custom 290lb no-load coils, 320lb coils for up to 250kg, 400lb coils for 350kg constant load and 450lb coils for 500kg constant load. D90/D1/RRC require their own vehicle-appropriate coils; these larger-diameter rear coils are not interchangeable. Final spring selection and achieved ride height depend on the vehicle and actual axle loads.
D90 rear coil choices
- C51-015 — linear rate, up to 50kg constant load, approximately 45mm lift.
- C51-027V — variable rate, 100–220kg constant load, approximately 50mm lift.
Discovery 1 rear coil choices
- C51-015 — linear rate, approximately 35mm lift.
- C51-022 — linear rate, up to 50kg constant load, approximately 50mm lift.
- C51-027V — variable rate, 100–220kg constant load, approximately 50mm lift.
- C51-132 — linear rate, 350–500kg constant load, approximately 50mm lift.
- C51-147 — linear rate, 500–600kg constant load, approximately 50mm lift.
Lift figures are guides only. D90 and D1 coil selections use their own load ratings; the D110/D130 ratings should not be used for these models.
Important: Puma with 2-inch coils
All Puma Defenders lifted with 2-inch coils require a front double cardan driveshaft — our MEGA EXTREME Wide Angle HD front shaft — and KINGPIN front multi-position bumpstop spacers. This also applies if you retain existing 2-inch coils. These items are additional to the base kit unless already fitted.
Optional front driveshaft
A vehicle-appropriate MEGA HD front shaft can be added. Perentie uses our dedicated Perentie MEGA HD wide-angle front shaft. Shaft selection depends on the model, engine and flange configuration; confirm RRC fitment with us.
Built around your setup
We confirm vehicle details and tuning before supply. Allow approximately one week for custom shock valving when the required shocks are in stock.
Perentie brake-line fitment: Perentie 4x4 uses the Defender 3-piece brake-line kit. Brake lines are not included in this Basic shock and mounting kit.
